The Smeraldo 37 (called the Smeraldo 36 until 1998 when the swim platform was extended) has been a popular model in the Cranchi fleet for many years. She’s built on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate beam, and with a steep 25 degrees of transom deadrise her deep-V hull makes for a particularly well-behaved ride in a chop. Her midcabin floorplan is arranged in the conventional manner with private staterooms fore and aft, a convertible portside dinette, a compact galley (a bit small by U.S. standards), and an enclosed head with shower. Aside from the meticulous finish, what sets these accommodations apart from the norm are the stylish European appliances and the rounded bulkhead doors. On deck, a comfortable L-shaped settee is opposite the helm on the bridge deck, and a U-shaped settee in the cockpit converts into a large sun pad. Hatches in the cockpit sole provide good access to the starboard engine, but getting to the portside motor means moving some furniture. Additional features include a foredeck sun pad, an elegant burlwood dashboard, and excellent storage. Among several engine options, twin 260hp Volvo diesel sterndrives cruise in the mid 20s (32–33 knots top).
